About The independent Edit
We are a style and substance guide. The Independent Edit celebrates a love of brands, style, processes, people and places.
We’re all about fostering a sense of community in the industry and presenting carefully curated edits. Bringing together brands with shared ideals and creating an altogether more intelligent, beautiful and thoughtful shopping experience. It's all the fun, beauty, luxury and colour that comes with fashion and lifestyle, rooted by solid values.
If you like to consider the processes behind your purchases, and the people behind the brands - this is the platform for you. If, like us, you appreciate creativity and ethics, but the aesthetics of a beautiful breezy silk dress or luxurious cashmere knit have the ability to make your heart beat faster - you are also in the right place.
While the focus is almost-entirely on independent brands, if a big company is addressing sustainability or fashion's consumption problem, then we applaud that too. All our edits are aspirational but accessible. We champion quality over quantity, buying less and choosing well, plus a social and environmental conscience. We believe that builds the foundations for sustainable consumption.
We also know people are naturally curious, so we’ll be interviewing the doers, and thinkers, designers and makers to unearth more about the spaces they inhabit, in the hope of sharing even more independent brands and discovering more global gems - whether it be a place, a product or a practice.
The Independent Edit is curated by Elaine Lloyd-Jones.
Elaine Lloyd-Jones works as a freelance editor, writer and consultant.
Having worked in the fashion industry for almost 20 years, creating content for multiple consumer brands, magazines and platforms, Elaine decided to channel her love for fashion, brands and stories into The Independent Edit.
With a career that started in the fashion cupboard of Elle, followed by the Press Office of Alexander McQueen, Elaine then moved permanently onto magazines in roles which saw her delivering fashion and features to a stylish and astute female audience. With several years spent as a Grazia Editor and regular contributions to Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, Elaine has fine-tuned her knowledge of luxury and global brands. She has also worked as a stylist collaborating with fashion brands like Chanel and Dior, as well as Topshop and Marks & Spencer - so understands the need for finery as well as affordability.
If you’re a brand with a story or product to share, she’d love to hear from you.
